2.) In this photograph we again see Mia. You may wonder as to why she is grasping a golden egg and holding a teddy bear? A few given formal elements may be, shallow depth of field due to the background being slightly out of focus. Another formal element is, asymmetrical for she is in front but not straight ahead from the rock in the back. Lastly, eye level point of view. When I captured this photo I was not exactly on the ground but on the same level as she so I can capture the full image of Mia. As you notice the photo is directly at her eye level in which it was taken. Gathering from Annie's photo's, I noticed she typically has a theme. Some of the Theme's and props even seem to contradict the message many times. Therefore, I placed Mia in a bunny costume and handed her a "golden egg" to convey the theme/season of Easter. On background of the photo, Mia was hot and tired in this photo therefore this is as close a happy face we can get. |
1.) In this image we see a young girl, Mia. She was irritated with being the model so therefore we can gather the frustration in her face. As well we notice she is wearing a bunny costume for emphasis on the theme. Formal elements shot in this photo would have to be simplicity for there is an uncomplicated background and Mia is in focus. As well we may notice, shoot from above. The camera is facing downward as we view her from above. Lastly to notice, diagonal lines. In the background there is a slight, small lines signified by the bright green grass directly behind her. From viewing Annie Leibovitz's photographs, I shot this image for she seems to take a good amount of portraits that are focused directly and only on the model. I have found it to be very exciting and fun to capture these images for I get to focus on the beautiful and enhanced features of my model.
This is an image of a young girl whom is extremely happy and enjoying life. As we can see she is holding a bright red flower while she stands in the middle of a cul-de-sac. Her blonde hair is pulled back therefore we can see the emotion on her face. A few formal elements in the photo may contain, shallow depth of field due to the background being out of focus and herself in focus. Another element may be shadow. If you view the photo closely, the trees are reflecting shadows on the gravel. Lastly, stop action. when I took this photo I captured it while she was spinning to convey the movement throughout the photo. In Annie's photos, she has shot many photos in stop action, therefore I captured one myself. Now this photo is nothing like the olympics however, Annie was an Olympic photographer and captured a lot of "action shots." After viewing her photos, this led toward my inspiration to take a few action shots myself. In this particular one, she is just spinning while holding a little red flower.

This is an image of my little brother's friend, Isaac. In the photo he is seemingly serious and puts forth a vibe of intimidation. as you can see he is holding a skateboard while looking directly into the camera. A few formal elements in the photo are, shallow depth of field, for Isaac is the main focus and the background is slightly out of focus directing our attention toward him. Another formal element may be, symmetrical balance. Isaac is standing in the direct center of the photo in which emphasizes symmetrical balance. Lastly, curved lines. Straight the the left of Isaac, the side walk seems to be curving as it makes its way down the street. Due to Annie taking multiple portraits, I took another of my own that focuses directly on our subject. As well since each photo generally conveys a theme, I had Isaac hold his skateboard to portray the theme of skating.

The following image is an image of my younger brother Teddy and again his friend Isaac. Teddy and Isaac each hold a soccer ball and foot ball to emphasize the theme of sports. Coincidentally, Isaac is a foot ball player meanwhile Teddy is a soccer and baseball player. This creates the idea of them in their natural every day life. A few formal elements are seen to be, shallow depth of field, asymmetrical balance, and shadow. As for shallow depth of field, you may notice both boys are in complete focus, while the background is not. This projects them as the main subjects in the whole image. Secondly, asymmetrical balance. Teddy stands not directly behind Isaac but behind and off to the left, in which reflects asymmetrical balance. Lastly, shadow. The trees in the background have just the right amount of sun of them that it creates their shadow on the street. Judging from Annie's photos, she again always seems to convey a theme. With them holding their sport balls it portrayed the theme of athletic sports.

6.) In this photograph captured by Annie Leibovitz, we see a young girl. She appears to be miserable/unhappy with any current situation. Judging based on her facial expressions and face of dirt, we can gather she isn't wealthy and has possibly had a difficult upbringing. We notice her hair blowing meant to create a dramatic effect and portray a feeling such as downcast and depressed. As well it creates a sense of action and movement in the photo allowing us to feel apart of the scene. When I first saw this photo I immediately saw a very sad and upsetting young girl and myself felt horribly for her. I felt as if I was apart of the image just from the way it was taken using the photo-shop and movement within the photo. A few formal elements in the image may be, stop action, simplicity, and diagonal lines. Leading with stop action, her hair seems to be in motion meanwhile the image was shot directly when the hair was moving. As for simpliity, the girl is in focus and the background appears to be uncomplicated. Lastly, Diagonal Lines, the strands of her hair are creating diagonal lines brushing across her cheeks.

In the following photo captured by Annie, we see a beautiful, elegant woman. She seems to be running in a long ball gown, away from a castle with only 1 shoe on her foot. Gathering from this we can imagine this is our childhood story, Cinderella. Noticing the worried facial expressions and knowing the movie we can guess she must be in a hurry and/or worried. When I saw this photo I felt a sense of my childhood and was intrigued to view every single aspect of the photo. The way Annie captured it allowed us to see the entire seen, in which I love and will continue to do myself. A few formal elements are, stop action, rule of thirds, and expansive depth of field. As for stop action, we see as the dress flows behind her as she is caught running in the photo in which we can sense the movement. Secondly, rule of thirds. Cinderella stands in the bottom right hand corner and is placed exactly where she needs to be to match rule of thirds. Lastly, expansive depth of field. I can view every aspect of the photo which creates expansive depth of field, allowing us to see every detail without blur. |
Viewing this photo we see Adele. She stands in one place with her hair flowing in all directions as she looks directly toward the camera. Her mouth is dropped open creating a dramatic effect of modeling. Her beauty is purely captured and every detail of her features are enhanced. when I first saw the image, I was amazed as to how Annie was able to shoot this photo. I have tried repeatedly to capture a photo alike this and have only gotten close. I am extremely curious to know her tricks and steps on how to capture this beautiful image. A few formal elements are, stop action, simplicity, and symmetrical balance. It is easy to see, stop action. Her hair is in motion and in mid-air when the photo was taken. As for simplicity, the background is uncomplicated and it resembles shallow depth of field. Lastly, symmetrical balance. for example, if we placed a straight line in the middle of her face, it would be the same on both sides, mirroring one another.
The following image is an image of another young gal. She seems to be much larger than the space in which she is confined. She is surrounded by tiny objects which may be used to symbolize and reflect the story of Alice In Wonderland. When I saw this image it projected a very magical feeling. Just looking at the photo I knew it was unrealistical which made it full of curiosity. If I had not seen Alice And Wonderland, I would have had a completely different perspective such as mystery and curiosity. I still do have a sense of curiosity due to the fact that she is in a small room, therefore I wonder exactly what the prop situation must be. A few formal elements are, framing, expansive depth of field, and curved lines. In the aspect of framing, the girl sits between the two walls which create a perfect frame and eye leading setting. Another element may be, expansive depth of field due to every part of the image being in focus. Lastly, curved lines. The way her leg is placed creates a curved line from her foot to her thigh.

In this photo, I see a gorgeous woman , seemingly in her early 20's. She is in an unusual gown and is holding a little blue bird. As for the background, she sits in a forest, surrounded by young, harmless creatures. Knowing all of my childhood favorite Disney movies, it was easy to assume this is from Snow White. When I saw this image, it reflected a sense of joy and happiness toward myself as the viewer. I still am full of curiosity as to how she takes these photos. It seems to simple yet it is much farther from. A few identified formal elements are, asymmetrical balance, framing, and curved lines. As for asymmetrical balance, Snow White is placed diagonal from the little blue bird, creating an asymmetrical balance from one another. Secondly, the trees in the back signify framing in the sense that they help direct our main attention toward snow. Lastly, curved lines. again with the trees in the back, it conveys a curved line from one to the other. I definitely am in love with this photograph and am using it for further inspiration.
